Press release

Ex London Bus Driver Launches Caribbean Inspired ‘My Sauce.’ A 47-year-old ex London bus driver + father-of-three, Gilchrist Thomas quit his job during the pandemic to launch ‘My Sauce,’ – inspired by his Caribbean roots. The saucepreneur is set to rival Levi Roots’ Reggae Reggae Sauce, – with delicious natural ingredients, and three funky flavours: Hot, Mild Scotch Bonnet, Green Chile + Spinach and a Peri Peri sauce. The sauces are vegan, friendly, gluten-free, and they come in 150ml bottles. “I left home at the age of 16. Having lost both parents at a young age, I had to fend for myself. I learned cooking skills from my sisters and various family members. I used to experiment with different seasonings and ingredients to create sauces. Many of my close friends complimented my sauces, and they were always encouraging me to supply local independent stores across London,” said the saucepreneur on his early days. “In 2020 during the pandemic, I was very unhappy with my London bus driving job, and I just could not see myself driving up and down the same route until I retire. There were also reports of bus drivers losing their lives due to COVID-19. So I made a conscious decision to take a huge gamble, and an act of faith to produce and supply my own condiments, instead,” added Gilchrist. Gilchrist’s journey has not been easy. It has taken hard work, determination, resilience, immense will power, patience, and unbelievable persistence. In the early days of his sauce business, Gilchrist faced rejection from buyers and shop owners, but this drove him to push even harder towards achieving his dreams and goals: “there’s nothing better than being your own boss, and doing something that you love and enjoy,” said My Sauce’s Founder.
